Muslim Boys United (MBU)

Mentoring young believers.
To strive for excellence.

ABOUT
MBU mentors Year 7 Muslim boys in the UK to strive for excellence in their studies, careers, and communities.

What does MBU do?

MBU mentors Year-7 Muslim boys in the UK to strive for excellence in their studies, careers, and communities - as they journey from boyhood to manhood during their secondary school years.

How will the MBU programme work in practice?

The mentorship programme will run from September 2025 to August 2026 and consist of: (i) online group sessions, (ii) in-person enrichment trips, and (iii) personalised mentoring support.

Online Group Sessions – The PAGE Curriculum

The MBU programme delivers 24 online group sessions per year, structured into four terms, with each term focusing on one module of the PAGE curriculum:
  • Purpose (Sep – Oct 2025) - Students consider their purpose and mission in life as young believers in the UK.
  • Awareness (Nov – Dec 2025) - Students learn about a wide range of career paths and opportunities open to them after they finish school.
  • Good Grades (Apr – May 2026) - Students are taught practical study techniques and revision tools to strengthen academic performance.
  • Emotional Intelligence (Jun – Jul 2026) - Students reflect on the emotional intelligence of the Prophets of God in the Quran, peace be upon them, and how to apply these qualities in their own lives.

In-Person Trips

  • Twice a year, students are invited to attend an in-person enrichment trip (previous trips have included a hike in nature and a guided tour of Cambridge University).

Personalised Mentoring Support

  • 1-on-1 Coaching Calls - Twice a year, students receive a one-on-one coaching call – to help clarify their personal goals and develop practical strategies for achieving them.
  • Essay Writing Feedback - Students complete four writing projects, per year, to strengthen communication skills - with personalised feedback from a Cambridge University graduate mentor.
  • Personal Development Report - Every student receives an end-of-year report – highlighting unique strengths, areas for improvement, and next steps for their journey towards excellence.

Why does MBU exist?

  • Information gap - Many young muslim boys across the UK are struggling to access a holistic educational curriculum that supports both their academic and character development as they progress towards manhood.
  • Institution gap - Muslim boys in this day and age, typically, do not undertake a formal process of initiation from boyhood to manhood - as was the case in traditional pre-modern societies. As a result, they have fewer opportunities to benefit from focused mentorship.
  • Social consequences - The lack of holistic educational curriculums and positive male mentors for young Muslim boys has detrimental effects on the quality and sustainability of family and community institutions, essential for society's success.

Who will be delivering the MBU mentorship programme?

The MBU programme will be delivered by Mr Sulaiman Iqbal. An individual committed to supporting young people to achieve their full potential and live God-centred lives.

Mr Sulaiman Iqbal honed his academic skills during his time at institutions such as Cambridge University, LSE, and Law School (BPP & ULaw). With a love for coaching young people, he brings practical experience in facilitating reflective discussions.

As the Founder of Team UPside, an award-winning educational charity, he spent four years supporting students in the Ealing, West London community and as a result was honoured with the Diana Award in 2022.

Furthermore, his personal background growing up in a fatherless household has instilled in him empathy and a genuine commitment to serve young people from underserved backgrounds to achieve their full potential.

The MBU programme represents a culmination of Sulaiman's years worth of lived experience and community service.

He stands ready to support Year-7 Muslim boys in the UK as they embark on their journey from boyhood to manhood during their secondary school years.

What students should apply to MBU programme?

The MBU programme welcomes applications on behalf of Muslim boys who will be starting Year 7 in September 2025 and are based in the UK.

Students living in single-parent households, receiving Free School Meals, and attending state schools are considered high-priority applicants.

Unfortunately, the programme currently cannot accommodate students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) due to capacity and experience constraints.

Selected applicants will be invited to a short interview. During the interview, the student’s commitment to striving for excellence in their studies, careers, and community service contributions will be assessed.

Students entering Year 8 are welcome to apply. However, priority will be given to those entering Year 7 in September 2025.

Please note that there are limited spaces available. Applications close on 27th July 2025.

How much does the MBU programme cost?

The MBU programme fee is £30 per month.

This fee allows MBU to generate a sustainable stream of revenue. By doing so, it can continuously improve the quality and quantity of support offered to Muslim boys in the UK.

Limited financial assistance is available for families who cannot afford the £30 per month fee.
